A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Our adoption journey has begun, for real this time. We have tried to start the process three times now, and with most things, apparently the third time is the charm. Both of the earlier attempts were interrupted by circumstances outside our control, and each time we surrendered our dream of growing our family with heavy hearts, but with a determination to return and try again as soon as we could.

That time has finally come, and we are over the moon about it! Our adoption study has been completed in what might be world-record time, and our profile is going live with LDS Family Services either today or tomorrow. After seven years of waiting, it feels great to be finally doing something.

Of course, once we are all up and running we will just start waiting for something different, but we feel confident that Heavenly Father has a hand in building the families of His children, and we have faith that He will put us together with the right birth parents. Somehow waiting to be selected for adoption feels different than waiting to get pregnant. We know for sure that there are birth parents out there looking for families, but we never knew for sure if we would ever get pregnant. Even though it might not seem that way to others, to us, the decision to adopt gives us a greater sense of comfort and control over our situation than trying to get pregnant for so many years did. Maybe that is only something a couple who struggles with infertility can understand.

So we are launched now. Off on our journey to grow our eternal family. We don't know how we will get there, and don't know if the journey will be long or short, smooth or bumpy. We don't even know what our destination is for sure. But we are confident that we will know it when we get there.

  1. Nice said Dana. We keep our fingers crossed for a not too long waiting time. The baby that is supposed to be yours is already in starting position, I am sure. We pray for you. You deserve to be parents and you will be wonderful parents.

  4. Dana, you do not know me from Adam, but I saw your profile on LDS Family Services and that led me here. I am LDS and teach college online. One of my students is in TN and is dying from cancer. Her sister died last year leaving her 3 daughters in her care. I know that you are seeking a newborn, but in your talking to people in your area, have you met any nice families who would be willing to adopt a sibling group in an open adoption? My student would like to find a couple with whom she could place her nieces for adoption before she dies so that when she dies the relationships will be formed and the transition easier for the girls. The oldest girl is a teenager, so I am not sure if she would actually want to be adopted. But the younger two are still quite young...I think around 3 and 7. If you know of anyone in TN who would be interested in adopting a sibling group, please let me know and I will give you her contact information.
